We believe that a healthy smile starts with healthy breathing habits.

At Midtown Myofunctional Dentistry in Oklahoma City, we help children attain optimal overall health, addressing issues like improper breathing habits and growth+development. Our dental professionals evaluate and tailor treatments to improve your child's respiratory function, ensuring easier breathing, better sleep, and a healthier life. Myobrace appliances may reduce the need for future orthodontic treatment by guiding teeth into proper alignment and enhancing oral function.

Our goal is to help your child (and you) breathe easier, sleep better, and live a happier, healthier life!

We will help to determine the underlying causes that affect their growth and development.

Dr. Cathy Sherry

Certified Myobrace Provider

Dr. Sherry received her BA in Psychology from the University of Oklahoma and her DDS from OU Health Science Center. Interceptive Orthodontics has always been a passion of Dr. Sherry, which involves treating patients at a younger age to prevent future orthodontic problems.

In 2011, Dr. Sherry was honored with the Best Invisalign Case award in the US and Canada. She has published numerous case studies, one of which is a journal article in the International Association for Orthodontics Journal. This particular article covers a case involving the redirection of facial growth in an adult patient who was experiencing airway issues.

The How & Why of Early Treatment

The treatment involves parents and children working together between appointments with a child-friendly program. It involves commitment and consistency.

  • An appliance is worn one hour each day and all night, every night

  • Exercises take 2 minutes twice per day

  • Visits are scheduled every 3-4 weeks

  • Patients can use an iPad/iPhone app for exercise tracking, progress, and support.

If treated early, many orthodontic problems may require a shorter treatment time in the future. Crooked teeth are a symptom of a problem elsewhere in the body, attempting to adapt. Nasal breathing is the only valid finish line in pediatric sleep-disordered breathing!

“No matter what you eat, how much you exercise, how skinny or young you are, none of it matters if you’re not breathing properly.
